Old fire halls will be modernized, new ones will be built

March 13, 2023, Fredericton, N.B. – The provincial and federal governments have announced $17.92 million for infrastructure projects, fire departments and municipalities with increased populations due to local governance reform that took effect Jan. 1.

Infrastructure projects for fire hall improvements or construction around the province will receive $5.24 million.

The fire hall funding will be used to build new halls or modernize existing ones. For example, the Penobsquis Fire Department is getting $864,000 to demolish its old station and build a new one on the same site.

Projects must be completed by Mar. 31, 2024 because a new agreement takes effect the following day.
