Mar. 6, 2017, Montreal -  A fire forced the evacuation of 150 people from two apartment buildings in the off-island Montreal suburb of Repentigny early Saturday morning.

The fire began around 1:30 a.m. according to media reports in one of the two buildings on Bonaventure St., separated by a firewall.

About 60 firefighters battled the blaze as residents left their homes in minus 20 weather.

Residents were transported to Repentigny’s city hall to warm up.

Repentigny fire department deputy director Marc Rocheleau said some residents were able to return to their homes Saturday morning to gather essential personal belongings such as medication. He said the apartments would be inhabitable for several weeks.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
