By The Canadian PressHeadlines News
May 18, 2016, Toronto - A 45-year-old woman is dead and a police officer who tried to save her is in hospital after a fire at a community housing building in northwest Toronto.
The fire broke out in a third floor apartment at about 1:30 a.m. (on Kendleton Dr. near Kipling and Albion).
Firefighters pulled the woman from the burning building without vital signs and she later died in hospital.
Fire officials say a police constable tried to rescue the woman before firefighters arrived, but the smoke was too heavy, and the officer required treatment for smoke inhalation.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
The victim’s name has not been released.
