Condo fire renews calls for amalgamation

May 19, 2016, White Rock, B.C. - The weekend White Rock condo fire that burned 100 people out of their homes has also sparked yet another call for the city of 20,000 citizens to join Surrey’s 500,000-plus population. Advocates of amalgamation note Surrey’s firefighters were needed to fight the towering blaze, and the depletion of the city-owned water utility followed by a boil-water advisory show that White Rock may be too small for its own good.
