Condominium blaze claims woman’s life
By The Canadian Press
Headlines NewsMay 16, 2018, Montreal - A body was found early Wednesday in the remains of a residential building that was ravaged by fire Tuesday night in the LaSalle borough.
Montreal police believe the remains are those of a 61-year-old woman who had been listed as missing and believe she was unable to exit the building when the fire broke out at about 10:30 p.m.
A formal identification of the remains has been ordered.
The three-unit condominium block is on Bois-des-Caryers St. near Angrignon Park. Some of the 160 firefighters deployed to battle the blaze were obliged to evacuate neighbouring buildings because of the risk that fire would spread.
The evacuees were placed in the care of the Red Cross, and it was during a head count of those who had been removed from their homes that the woman’s absence was noted.
