Doug Wregren promoted to Fire Chief for Saskatoon Fire Department

May 17, 2024, Saskatoon — Doug Wegren, former Assistant Chief for the Saskatoon Fire Department, has assumed the role of Fire Chief for SFD following the retirement of Morgan Hackl.

Wegren started his career with the department as a firefighter and EMT in 1999, progressing through the ranks and holding a number of positions including fire service instructor, restorative action lead, and more.

Additionally, he was selected to participate with the city’s Emergency Command Centre, Emergency Management Operations planning section, and the fire department’s Tactical Operations Centre during the COVID-19 pandemic, engaging primarily with the vulnerable sector.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to lead such an esteemed fire service in the community that I call home,” said Wegren in a press release. “As the new Fire Chief, I am committed to working collaboratively with our partners and all orders of government to meet the evolving needs of our community.”
