Evacuation areas expand as wildfires rage near Halifax, Barrington

May 28, 2023, Nova Scotia – Nova Scotia woke Monday morning to two massive wildfires still out of control and its capital in a state of emergency. Halifax Regional Municipality declared the state of emergency at 11 p.m. on Sunday for a period of seven days to allow for it to better access funds, a higher-level of intergovernmental coordination and to assist in organizing businesses and the evacuation of residents.
