Last year was Ontario’s worst in decades, with 133 fire-related fatalities, including tragic losses of young children and families. Many of those fatal fires occurred in homes that lacked working smoke alarms. Messages about the importance of having working smoke alarms are not reaching all Ontarians.

Together with our partners, we are rallying members of Ontario’s fire services and our fire-safety stakeholders to join us for the Office of the Fire Marshal’s (OFM) Operation SAFER (Smoke Alarms For Every Residence). This summit will provide delegates with tools and resources to effect behaviour change and heighten awareness among Ontarians about the vital role working smoke alarms play in reducing fire deaths and injuries.
