Firefighter nominated for YWCA Hamilton’s Women of Distinction Award in Education/Mentorship

Feb. 4, 2019, Hamilton, Ont. - Pike Krpan, a Hamilton firefighter and vice-president of the Fire Service Women Ontario (FSWO) has been nominated for the YWCA Hamilton's Women of Distinction Award in Education/Mentorship.

Krpan has been promoting positive change for women in the fire service, not only in her role within FSWO, but also her leading role in Hamilton's Camp FFIT (Female Firefighters in Training), a three-day program that empowers young women and introduces them to firefighting.

The Women of Distinction Awards are nationally recognized awards for women, and honours the achievements of these trailblazers who have displayed their commitment to bettering their communities and making a positive impact.

Pike has been a career firefighter with the City of Hamilton since 2013. She has been a member of FSWO since the beginning of her career. 
Pike rides an engine truck and also has had the opportunity to work in dispatch, rope rescue and also as a driver/pump operator at Hamilton Fire. 

She was the recipient of a full Honeywell Scholarship to FDIC 2016. She studied Pre-Service Firefighter Education at FESTI (Fire and Emergency Services Training Institute) and was hired within six months of her graduation.

Pike is currently a mentor with FSWO's mentorship program and offers assistance to many young women and men considering a career in the fire service. She also acts as a mentor promoting women in firefighting with the Women in Trades program of the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program. She loves to introduce people to the challenge of firefighting.
