Five-alarm fire guts six apartments

Headlines NewsAug. 31, 2016, Montreal - The tenants of six apartment units in Montreal have been left homeless following an overnight fire.
The fire broke out at about 2:30 a.m. in the district of Verdun (on de L’Eglise St.).
There were no injuries among the evacuated residents, but two of the some 100 firefighters called out to battle the blaze suffered slight injuries.
There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire, which appears to have started on a balcony and spread to the roof.
A team from the Canadian Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
