April 28, 2016, Saskatoon - Three teenage boys have been charged with arson and break and enter after a large fire at an auto salvage yard in Saskatoon.

The trio – two 14-year-olds and one 13-year-old – were among five youth who were questioned after last week's blaze, which sent thick, black smoke into the sky that could be seen for several kilometres.

Police say two kids younger than 12 have been warned, but cannot be charged because of their age.

No one was hurt, but firefighters needed several hours to get the flames under control in the yard, which held more than 1,000 vehicles.

Fire officials have said the owner of the business estimates the damaged inventory at about $250,000.

One of the 14-year-olds is to appear in Saskatoon provincial court on Friday.

The other teens charged were to make their appearances on Thursday.
