Investigation launched after Quebec firefighter dies following blaze

Martin Tremblay, 43, a father of three, was a member of the Boischatel / L’Ange-Gardien fire department for many years and also worked as a volunteer firefighter for Quebec City.
The fire was reported around 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Silex St. Tremblay was injured while fighting the fire and succumbed to his injuries overnight at a hospital, the SQ said.
All the occupants of the residence were safely removed. The building was a total loss, and relief organizations were mobilized to help those who lost their homes.
Quebec Public Security Minister Geneviève Guilbault said it was the second firefighter to die in the line of duty in two months. “Altruism in its purest form, which commands infinite respect,” she wrote on Twitter, offering condolence.
Psychological help will be offered to firefighters needing it.
