Less recovery time between B.C. fires and floods

June 1, 2018, Vancouver - Emergency officials say the gap between flood and fire seasons that typically gives crews some reprieve seems to be shrinking.

Chris Duffy of Emergency Management B.C. says a period of grass regrowth between the seasons has historically delayed the fire season, but that breathing room has been disappearing throughout the past decade or so.

Dave Campbell of the River Forecast Centre says between 40 and 100 per cent of snowpack across the province has melted since the beginning of the season, with some remaining in areas of high elevation.

But even though there was more snowpack than normal this year, high temperatures this summer could still create drought conditions although he warned it's too early to make a prediction.
