Malaspina Volunteer Fire Department chief retires after 46 years of service

June 24, 2024, Qathet, B.C. — Fire Chief Dave Keiver has retired from the Malaspina Volunteer Fire Department in Qathet, B.C.

Keiver served with the department for 46 years and was appointed to fire chief for the department in 2005.

“As Chief Keiver embarks on a well-deserved retirement, the Qathet Regional District extends its heartfelt appreciation for his service, and unwavering commitment to public safety,” said Clay Brander, Qathet Regional District board chair, in a press release. “While his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of volunteer firefighters.”

Deputy Chief Bill Ashworth has stepped in as acting fire chief while the department searches for a permanent replacement.
