Aug. 23, 2016, Toronto - A man has died following a fire in a Toronto apartment building early Tuesday.

Emergency crews were called to the building just west of the downtown core (on Shaw St. near King St. West) just after 3 a.m.

Fire Dept. platoon chief Kevin Shaw said when firefighters entered a second-floor unit, they found a man who had apparently collapsed near the door.

Shaw told CP24 that efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paramedics say some residents were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene but none had to be taken to hospital.
