News Headlines Hot TopicsSept. 30, 2024, Cherryville, B.C. — The Regional District of North Okanagan is supporting the Cherryville Firewatch Society and other community groups to develop a Fire Watch Building.
The building will be 2000 square feet and will house community equipment, a bush truck and tank pumps for quick response during a wildfire event, the district reported in a press statement.
The structure will also provide office and training space for volunteers recognized to assist with wildfire events through the B.C. Wildfire Service.
Funding is being retained by the Cherry Ridge Management Committee, who have already received donations from the committee itself and Tolko Industries. Additional fundraising and potential community grant opportunities will continue to be pursued.
Project construction is expected to begin this fall.
