Sydney house fire leaves one dead

Jan. 2, 2017, Sydney, N.S. -  A Boxing Day house fire in Sydney, Nova Scotia has claimed the life of a 59-year-old woman.

Cape Breton Regional Police say a man in his 50's who was also in the house was able to escape with minor injuries.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her name has not yet been released.

Police say both people are from the Sydney area.

There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.
