EMERGENCY LEADERSHIP & CLIMATE CHANGE: PREPARING FOR, RESPONDING TO, AND MANAGING EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS

WHY TALK ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE?

Climate change effects are becoming visible in municipalities across Canada. For the fire services, this means an increase in response to flooding, wildfires, tornadoes, high winds and extreme heat. It means more downed hydro poles and day-to-day hazards. Dangerous weather is becoming notably more frequent and extreme.

Fire chiefs face budgeting challenges in preparing their departments and supporting community preparedness. When disaster strikes, they may be better or less equipped to think and act quickly in the face of an ever evolving emergency that is lasting way longer than any other typical call.

FFIC’s 2022 Virtual Summit will kick-off by drawing on expertise from across Canada to share best practices and mutual challenges in emergency preparedness, such as budgeting, equipment and training, followed by afternoon sessions focused on response, such as managing expectations, crew well-being and decision making.

Registration is free.
