Nov. 1, 2024, Kawartha Lakes, Ont. — The Ontario Association of Fire Educators (OAFE) has selected Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service’s Jump Into Fire Safety with Katie for their 2024 Program of the Year.

The program was selected from five nominees and evaluated by a panel of udges, including a current fire chief from New York State and a retired fire chief from Alberta, and a retired fire prevention officer from Ontario, the city reported in a press statement.

Jump into Fire Safety with Katie is a collaboration between the Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service’s fire prevention and public education team, Rogers TV North Durham-Kawartha and producer Mel Shannon, who all produced a TV show hosted by Katie Dukelow, fire prevention public educator with the fire service.

As part of the recognition, KLFRS will receive a $500 credit from the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council.
