Malahat chief died while trying to help

Jan. 5, 2016, Malahat, B.C. - Rob Patterson, chief of the Malahat Volunteer Fire Department and vocal advocate for improved safety on the crash-prone stretch of highway, died the way he lived his life: trying to help someone. Patterson, 53, was off duty and riding an ATV to help someone who was stuck in the snow on Monday when he went into medical distress. The cause of death has not yet been released.
