Owen Sound firefighter wins gold at regional FireFit championship

Aug. 30, 2023, Owen Sound, Ont. – Owen Sound firefighter Joe Forbes finished in first place at the FireFit Lake Huron Regional Championship in Port Elgin, Ont. last weekend.

Forbes was the the number one athlete at the event, with a time of one minute and 22 seconds.

He now qualifies for the National FireFit Championship in Windsor, Ont. in the coming weeks.

“Owen Sound Fire is very proud of Joe and his success. Joe’s dedication is remarkable, and we wish him continued success at the upcoming national competition,” said Fire Chief Phil Eagleson.

Each FireFit Championship is said to be a physically demanding competition based on fire fighting tasks commonly performed in emergency situations.

The international competition is often referred to as “the toughest two minutes in sports”, the city said in a press release.
