Six Nations fire, police to host community awareness open house

Apr. 24, 2024, Ohsweken, Ont. – With May just around the corner that also means community awareness month for Six Nations Fire and Emergency Services is fast approaching.

SNFES, in collaboration with Six Nations Police, will be hosting a community awareness month public open house.

The event will take place on Friday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Station #1, located at 17 Veterans Lane in Ohsweken.

“They will come and get a great view of how our teams work together in a crisis, get some insight into fire prevention, and get to enjoy an amazing hot dog,” said Acting Fire Chief Michael Seth.

Attendees to the open house will receive information on dealing with emergencies and be able to tour trucks and other emergency vehicles, along with experiencing other fun activities.

New to this year’s open house is an artisan market with local vendors selling a variety of items.

Six Nations Police Service members have also challenged the firefighters in a “Smoke Off” for the day of the event.

“Community members will taste a variety of smoked meats and chose their favourite,” said a post by the fire service on social media.
