July 24, 2020, Ottawa – Ottawa Fire Services received a report Thursday of a fishing boat going through the Deschenes Rapids with two operators aboard. The boat moved out of sight so a kayaker went to check and found the boat had stalled and entered the Aylmer Hydro Ruins which is a highly hazardous area with fast moving water. Two males in their 30s jumped from the sinking boat into the water and were swept through a hole in the concrete wall of the ruins.
Ottawa Fire Water Rescue Technicians were then able to rescue the men downriver. Gatineau Fire Water Technicians assisted at this incident and the two men were brought safely to shore and Ottawa Paramedics assumed patient care.
