Mar. 19, 2024, Strathroy, Ont. – A new chapter in public safety and emergency response has begun with the groundbreaking ceremony for the beginning of construction for the Municipality’s new Fire Station. Held on February 29, the event marked the commencement of construction on a facility poised to bring about significant enhancements in the area’s emergency services capabilities.

The new fire station, valued at over $7 million plus HST, is a major component of the township’s long-term commitment to improving public safety. It marks the beginning of efforts to replace the existing Station 1, identified for upgrade within the 2021 Fire Master Plan due to its age and the evolving needs of the community.

Located at 220 East Centre Street, the upcoming station promises to be a cornerstone in Strathroy-Caradoc’s emergency services strategy, offering state-of-the-art technology and facilities to aid firefighters in responding to incidents efficiently. “This project underscores our unwavering commitment to public safety and emergency preparedness,” said Mayor Colin Grantham. “The new station will provide our dedicated firefighters with the tools and resources they need to continue to serve the community.”

The groundbreaking ceremony brought together members of the Fire Department, Council members, and municipal staff, underscoring the collaborative spirit behind this pivotal community project. It symbolizes the fruition of extensive planning and partnership between the Municipality, a+LiNK Architecture Inc., and Tradition Construction Inc.

Mayor Grantham expressed gratitude for the collective efforts leading to this milestone, stating, “From conception to execution, it has been a collaborative effort aimed at enhancing the safety and security of our community. We look forward to witnessing the positive impact of this new facility for generations to come.”

The construction of the new Fire Station 1 is a clear statement of Strathroy-Caradoc’s dedication to maintaining a safe and prepared community. As the construction progresses, the existing Station 1 will remain operational, ensuring uninterrupted service provision by the fire department.

This development is not just about a new building; it’s a forward-looking investment in the community’s resilience, safety, and the well-being of its residents. With the construction now officially underway, the anticipation grows for the enhanced capabilities and improved emergency response times the new fire station will bring to Strathroy-Caradoc.
