Quinte West FireFit team wins medals at national championships in Sarnia

Oct. 4, 2023, Quinte West, Ont. – The Quinte West FireFit team brought home multiple medals recognizing their efforts at the FireFit national championships in Sarnia. The national championships concluded a high-performing season for the Quinte West FireFit team which also competed in regional events in St. Catharines, Quinte West, Montreal and Port Elgin this year.

Members of the 2023 Quinte West FireFit team are Shelby Barton, Kevin DeVries, Greg King, Pat Millington, Sean Morphet and Ryan McNaught.

The team’s results at the national championships in Sarnia include a silver medal in the Individual (Over 55) category and a silver medal in the Individual (Chief / Senior Officer) category. Shelby Barton had a strong rookie season and was the most improved member of the team, dropping 1:30 minutes off her individual race time. Barton also helped the team bring home two medals in the mixed-relay events.

The team’s overall regional results this season include:

  • Shelby Barton, Greg King and Pat Milington – One silver medal in the Team Relay – Mixed division.
  • Shelby Barton, Kevin DeVries, Greg King, Pat Milington, Sean Morphet and Ryan McNaught – One bronze medal in the Team Relay – Mixed division.
  • Greg King – Three gold and one silver medal in the Individual – Over 55 division; three gold and one silver medal in the Individual – Chief / Senior Officer division.
  • Greg King and Pat Millington – One gold and one silver medal in the Tandem Relay – Open division
  • Pat Millington – Three silver medals in the Individual – Open division.

The Quinte West FireFit team is expected to compete among 350 athletes at the World Firefighter Combat Challenge in Stuart Beach, Florida this month.
